This is a private, non-commercial website that offers no paid services. It therefore carries no provider identification under § 5 DDG. For anything arising from this policy, the email address above reaches me.

In short

This is a static website. It sets no cookies, embeds no analytics or tracking, loads no fonts or scripts from third-party servers, and contains no embedded third-party content such as videos or maps. There is no contact form and no newsletter.

Personal data therefore arises in two places only: the hoster’s server logs, and any email you send me.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served as static files by GitLab Pages, operated by GitLab Inc., 268 Bush Street #350, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA.

When you open a page, the hoster processes the technically necessary access data your browser transmits automatically:

  • the IP address of the requesting device
  • date and time of the request
  • the address requested
  • volume of data transferred and status code
  • browser type and operating system
  • the previously visited page, if sent (referrer)

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest is the technically sound and secure delivery of the site. I do not evaluate this data myself and do not combine it with other data. I have no influence on how long the hoster retains it.

Some of this processing takes place in the United States. Data transfers to GitLab Inc. in the USA take place primarily on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision). EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) are used as a supplementary legal basis and fallback mechanism in cases where the Framework does not apply or where data is transferred from countries outside its scope.

Storage on your device

The site stores three settings locally in your browser (localStorage) so they survive to your next visit:

These are not cookies. The values stay in your browser, are never transmitted to me or to anyone else, and contain no personal data. They serve only a function you requested yourself and are therefore exempt from consent under § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG. You can delete them at any time through your browser settings.

Contact by email

If you email me, I process what you send in order to deal with your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for contract-related enquiries. I delete the message once the matter is settled and no retention obligations apply.

The site links to external resources such as publisher pages, DOI addresses and research databases. Their operators alone are responsible for any data processing there. Those sites are only contacted once you follow the link.

Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) and data portability (Art. 20 GDPR), as well as the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR).

You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR) — the one responsible for where you live, where you work, or where the alleged infringement took place.

If the technical setup of this site changes, I will update this text. The version published here at the time applies.
